Travel Photo Books

Your holiday photos, in a printed book with the whole trip in the right order.

Give Your Trip a Book

Trip photos rarely get looked at again once they are lost in a camera roll. A printed travel book keeps the whole journey together: the places, the food, the people and the small moments in between.

It also makes a good gift for the people who came along, or for the family who did not.

Choose a Landscape Book

Most scenery is shot sideways, so a landscape book shows it best. A4 landscape has room for panoramic spreads across both pages. 9x6 inch landscape is slimmer and lighter. A5 landscape suits a short trip or a honeymoon.

Square 8x8 inch works well if you have a mix of portrait and landscape photos.

Softcover or Hardcover

Softcover is lighter and costs less, which suits a book you make after every trip. Hardcover protects the pages and lasts longer on a shelf, which suits a honeymoon or a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Shoot With the Book in Mind

A few habits on the trip make the book much easier. Take some wide shots that set the scene, some close-ups of details such as food, signs and textures, and a few photos of the people, not only the places.

Take landscape photos for wide views and a few portrait photos for people and tall sights. Turn off any filters and effects that shrink the image, and keep the originals.

Organise by Day or Place

The simplest structure is one chapter for each day or each place. Start each chapter with your best photo of that day, and follow it with smaller photos of the details. Add the place and date as a short caption.

For a long trip, group by place rather than by date, so the book does not feel like a diary.

Use Spreads for Big Views

When you open a book, the two pages together are a spread. Put a wide landscape photo across a spread for a mountain, beach or city view. Keep faces away from the fold in the middle.

Mix the Big and the Small

Alternate full-page photos of the big views with pages of several smaller photos for meals, street scenes and small moments. The mix keeps the book interesting to look through.

Group Trips: Collect Everyone's Photos

If you travelled with others, ask each person to send their originals rather than compressed copies from a chat app. Choosing the best photo of each moment from several phones usually gives a better book than any one person's camera roll.

Got questions?

A4 landscape for big panoramic spreads, 9x6 inch landscape for a slimmer book, or A5 landscape for a short trip.

Softcover for a book you make after every trip; hardcover for a honeymoon or a special trip you want to keep for years.

Yes. Upload straight from your phone's camera roll, on Android or iPhone.

Ask them to send the original files, not copies sent on WhatsApp, which are compressed.
