The first year goes fast. Put it in something you can hold.
New parents take more photos in one year than in the ten before, and nearly all of them end up in a phone. A printed book gives the first year a beginning and an end, and it is something grandparents can hold on the days they cannot visit.
A5 portrait suits baby books. It is comfortable to hold and easy to send as a gift. Choose a hardcover with matte pages: it will be handled a lot, and matte pages hide fingerprints well.
Organise it month by month, with one large photo to open each month, and smaller photos of the small moments that followed.
Good first-year photos are often the small ones: the first smile, the first solid food, the first time sitting up, the first steps. Take a photo of your baby in the same place each month, such as the same chair or blanket, and the growth will show in the book.
Add the age and the date as a short caption. You will not remember exactly which month it was in a few years.
A photo calendar with a picture of your baby for every month makes a lovely gift for grandparents. Mark birthdays, the first birthday, and family visits on the right dates, and choose the month it starts so it begins with the baby's birth month or the new year.
A collage of the first month or the first birthday, in an 8x8 or 8x10 inch size, is a good gift for a wall or a desk. Polaroid-style prints, with a caption on the white border, are easy to hand to relatives or tuck into a card.

Babies move, so photos taken on a phone in low light can look soft. Choose the sharpest ones for a full page, and upload the originals from your camera roll, not copies sent on WhatsApp.
