How to make a photo calendar: the short version

To make a photo calendar, choose a size, pick the month it starts, add one photo for each month, mark the birthdays and dates that matter, then order. On SnapXXL you do all of this in the online editor, and the printed calendar is delivered across India.

Prices start at ₹129 + GST for a pocket calendar and ₹299 + GST for an A4 wall calendar.

Step 1: Choose a wall or desk calendar

Start with where the calendar will live, not which photos to use. A wall calendar suits a shared space like the kitchen, a hallway or an office wall. We make wall calendars in A4 (₹299 + GST), 12x18 inch (₹399 + GST), 12x12 inch (₹429 + GST), A3 (₹449 + GST) and 13x19 inch (₹549 + GST). Because people look at a wall calendar from a few feet away, bold photos with one clear subject work better than busy group shots.

A desk calendar is for close-up viewing on a desk, bedside table or shelf. Choose the A5 desk calendar (₹249 + GST) or the 18x12 cm mini desk calendar (₹179 + GST). The pocket calendar (₹129 + GST) is the smallest and the cheapest. Desk calendars suit more personal photos and work well as a gift for one person.

Step 2: Pick the month your calendar starts

You can start your photo calendar in any month. It does not have to begin in January. A calendar given as a birthday gift in June feels better if it starts in June, rather than showing five months that have already passed.

In India, many people plan around the April to March financial year, and school and college years often begin in April or June. Starting the calendar in that month makes it more useful. For a New Year or Diwali gift, January is still the natural choice.

Step 3: Choose a photo for each month

Picking twelve photos is easier with a system. One way is to give each month a theme first, such as a season, a colour or an activity, and then find the best photo that fits. Another way is to follow the year in order, one real moment per month, so the calendar becomes a small diary of the year.

Whichever way you choose, favour photos with one clear subject. At calendar size, a photo with a single focal point looks much better than a cluttered one. Vary the colours and subjects from month to month so turning the page feels like a small event.

Step 4: Add birthdays, anniversaries and events

This is what makes a personalised calendar different from a printed one. You can mark birthdays, anniversaries, a family holiday or a recurring event on the right date, with your own text. A calendar with a birthday marked on the correct day often means more to the person receiving it than another photo would.

Each date can carry custom text, so you can note more than one thing on the same day.

Step 5: Check the design, then order

Before you order, check that the date grid is easy to read over each photo. High contrast keeps the numbers legible. If the calendar is for the whole household, choose photos that more than one person will recognise and enjoy.

A calendar is date-sensitive, so order early enough for it to arrive before its first month. For a January start, early to mid December is the safest time to order.
